by Matt Harmon

Rafael Nadal the fiery Spaniard has held the tennis world in his thrall since 2001 when he went professional. This left handed player had earned well north of $45 million in prize money. He continues to set new records with his brilliant and flamboyant playing style each time he walks onto the court.

An Olympic Gold medalist he has stamped his supremacy on the French Open and has won it 6 times. Nadal won The Australian Open once, US Open once and Wimbledon twice. He is one of two players to have won all 4 Grand Slams and an Olympic Gold Medal.

This 25 year old tennis player is hailed as one of the best players ever. On clay he is a phenomenon which has brought him the title of the greatest clay court player ever. His professional playing record is hugely provoking and when somebody considers his youthful age he's going to be winning competitions and setting records for many a year to come.

In every way he's an achiever. Rafael Nadal started his tennis career when an uncle introduced him to the game at the age of three. And as they say in the classics the rest is history. At the age of eight he won a regional tournament in the under-12 championships and at 12 he took the Spanish and European tennis titles in his class.

In May 2001 he beat Pat Cash a former Grand Slam Champion in a clay court exhibition match and turned professional in that year. When he was 17 he triumphed over Roger Federer for the first time. Their clashes around the globe in Grand Slams, Davis Cup and other internationally famous ATP Competitions have been titanic and almost Olympian occasionally.

In 2003 he got given ATP's Newbie of the Year Award and in 2005 at the age of 19 he played in the French Open for the 1st time and went on to win. This remarkable feat was to be followed with 4 sequential wins at Roland Garros. From 2005 through to 2011 he has ruled the pro tennis circuit around the planet and his wins have included every major world event.

Rafael Nadal brought a touch of his very own with a trademark of biting a prize when he won. Known as El Nino 'The Child ' when he first arrived on the scene he has since then proved and claimed the nickname of 'Supremo ' and long may he reign.
